Our Story
In 2001, Michael Perkins and his family opened the original Mustard Seed Cafe in Redmond, Oregon. The Mustard Seed Cafe went on to win several awards as Redmond’s best. After 2 years, they sold everything and set off for Nicaragua. As new Christians they felt the calling to use their talents in hospitality to serve mission teams visiting Nicaragua. During their 12 year stay in Nicaragua, Southern Hills built a partnership with the Perkins and the people of Aduana Dos, Nicaragua as we sent mission teams.
In 2018, the Perkins moved back to the United States to help launch the Mustard Seed Cafe in Carrollton, GA. In 2022, Southern Hills purchased the Mustard Seed Mission in Nicaragua and began managing the cafe. We continue to develop relationships with the people of Aduana Dos and have expanded our efforts to Santa Barbara. Through our sponsorship program, we help kids receive an education and stay in contact with their families year round.
